[Eng] I found this nice animated short on Vimeo. Made at the renowned international film school Baden-Württemberg Filmakademie (in Germany) by Egmont Mayer. I like the design and the story. The animation work, in Softimage|XSI, is good too. “A man lives alone in a small apartment. The little contact he had with other people has dropped to zero since the rabbit appeared. Every attempt to get the rabbit out of his apartment has failed and since he is not sure whether or not pets are allowed in the building, he does not let anybody enter his apartment.”

[Fr] J’ai trouvé ce charmant court métrage d’animation sur Viméo. Réaliser à la réputée école internationale du film Baden-Württemberg Filmakademie (en Allemagne) par Egmont Mayer. J’aime bien le design et l’histoire. Le travail d’animation, en Softimage|XSI, est aussi très bien. «Un homme vit seul dans un petit appartement. Le peu de contacts qu’il a avec d’autres personnes est tombé à zéro depuis l’arrivée du lapin. Toute tentative de sortir le lapin de son appartement a échoué. Comme il n’est pas sûr que les animaux sont admis dans le bâtiment, il ne laisse personne entrer dans son appartement.»

A Swedish animated movie featuring the voices of Juliette Lewis and Vincent Galo?

[Eng] Metropia, directed by Tarik Saleh, is a feature-length animated movie from Sweden. The film was co-produced by Atmo Metro (Sweden), Zentropa Entertainment (Denmark), and Tordenfilm As (Norway) and has received 400,000 Euros from Eurimages (European cinema fun). Despite the relatively small budget of $3 million, the images I have seen to date, along with the two videos shown in this post, are very promising.

The film appears to be a great blend of stop motion, 2D animation and possibly 3D. Juliette Lewis and Vincent Gallo have already been confirmed for voices. The movie is expected to be released in the fall of 2009. I will keep you posted with up-to-the-minute updates!

The first video is the official trailer. The other is an interview with the director (unfortunately in Swedish. Wish I’d paid more attention to the Swedish chef…) where you can see some excerpts from the movie.

Malgré un relativement petit budget de 3 millions de dollars, les images qui me sont parvenus et les deux vidéos ci-joints sont très prometteurs.

Le film semble un heureux mélange de stop motion, d’animation 2D et possiblement de 3D. Et pour la distribution des voix en anglais, on confirme déjà Juliette Lewis et Vincent Gallo. Sortie prévue: automne 2009. Je vous tiens au courant dès que j’en sais un peu plus!

Le premier vidéo est la plus récente bande-annonce officielle. L’autre c’est une entrevue avec le réalisateur (en suédois malheureusement) où on peut apercevoir quelques extraits du film.

In house animation storyboard

[Eng] This is the first post about an ongoing in-house short animated movie project we are working on. I thought I could show you these two (not consecutive) pages of the storyboard I did. As you can tell, it is quite an uplifting subject! Yes, the storyboard is hand drawn on paper with indian ink and brush. No computer for this one, but I have to admit that nowadays I am using my Wacom Cintiq graphic tablet more then brushes and paper.
___As you may have noticed, I have blurred or removed the comments and markings on these scans to create some suspense… But I still wanted to show you this, and I will share more as the project evolves. The final animation will be a mix of 2D and 3D. I will soon post a sequence of the animatic and some test renders. Stay tuned!

[Fr] Voici mon premier billet au sujet d’un « projet maison » de court métrage d’animation sur lequel nous travaillons. J’ai pensé vous présenter ces deux pages (non consécutive) du story-board (scénarimage) que j’ai réalisé. Comme vous pouvez le constater, le sujet est très serein et joyeux! Effectivement,  j’ai réalisé ces dessins à la main, avec pinceaux et à l’encre de Chine. Pas à l’ordinateur cette fois-ci bien que, je dois l’admettre, dernièrement je travaille beaucoup plus avec ma tablette graphique Cintiq de Wacom qu’avec papier et pinceaux.
___Vous avez sans doute remarqué que j’ai brouillé ou enlevé les commentaires et indications qui apparaissaient sur ces images, question de conserver un certain suspense… Cependant, je voulais quand même vous les montrer, car je vais vous informer de l’évolution du travail au fur et à mesure de nos progrès. L’animation finale sera un mélange de 2D et 3D. Je vais bientôt vous montrer une petite séquence de l’animatique et quelques tests de rendus. À bientôt!

[Eng] Maybe you have seen this video already, but I had to show it in my blog. This video is great! I mean brilliant!! Proof that you do not need a complex or costly setup to make great things. Especially when it is done in stop motion. In a case like this, it is all about planning… and a good concept!

[Fr] Vous avez peut-être déjà vu ce vidéo, mais je ne pouvais pas résister à le mettre dans mon blogue. Ce vidéo est excellent! Que dis-je, brillant!! Preuve qu’il ne faut pas de grand moyen pour faire de grandes choses. Surtout lorsqu’il s’agit de stop motion. L’important dans un cas comme celui-ci, c’est la planification… et un bon concept!
